IDRON – Innovative Dual sustainable solutions for Rural water scarcity and use OptimizatioN

Funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, IDRON tackles water scarcity — a growing challenge for rural Mediterranean areas increasingly affected by climate change and limited access to reliable water resources. The project promotes a dual strategy for sustainable agriculture: developing alternative water sources while optimizing water use efficiency, with the goal of strengthening the resilience of rural water systems.

IDRON delivers an AI-powered Decision Support System that integrates real-time data from IoT sensors, biosensors and satellite monitoring, alongside innovative water-saving technologies such as smart irrigation. These solutions are being tested across pilot sites in Greece, Cyprus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy and Montenegro, encouraging knowledge exchange and technology transfer across the region.

Within the project, M3R applies advanced Biomolecular Tools to assess the microbiological quality of water generated from sustainable sources such as Constructed Wetlands and contributes to communication and dissemination activities.
