PUBLIC GREEN SPACES

Phytoremediation of a site in an urban context contaminated by metals

The project is set in an urban public green space context where soil has been found to be contaminated with metals, particularly copper and zinc. The objective is to eliminate the risk related to the presence of metals and to preserve ecological corridors as well as to maintain the usability of the park.

PROBLEM

Green area in an urban context contaminated with metals

A public green area has been found to be contaminated with metals, particularly copper and zinc. As the contaminated area is located in an urban context, widely visited by local residents, it is of interest to the community the reclamation of the site with minimal impact.

SOLUTION

Phytoremediation for the restoration of surface soils.

M3R contributed to the definition of a site-specific intervention strategy (selection of phytoremediation technology – phytoextraction and/or phytostabilization) as well as to the definition of the intervention monitoring plan and provided support in the drafting of an Operational Reclamation Project (POB)
